Communication, it is the first thing we learn in our life. Communication begins in the womb. Even before a child is born, he or she communicates. A baby’s kicking, rolling – all of these movements communicates something to the mother. We used pigeons, horses, cave paintings, writings, sculptures as a mode of communication in olden days, in the middle age we used newspapers, letters, magazines etc. As electronic communication was introduced, the communication speed increased leaps and bounds. Modern communication includes internet mails, instant messaging services, wikis, VOIP calls, video conferencing etc… Google wave is yet another icon in the communication development… what exactly is the google wave??? Well… Google defines it as an “online tool for real-time communication and collaboration”. when to use google wave ??? It’s up to you. You can use it for group chatting, group projects, photo sharing, meeting notes ,Interactive games or even to organize events… What are the features of google wave over other communication tool??? It has lot of features, I will highlight some of them.
- It is an Web based tool, which means that you don’t need to worry about downloading, installing and configuring.. All you need is a web browser and you can use it anywhere either in home or office or coffee shop and so on..
- Wiki Style functionality- this feature allows you to edit and reorganize the messages within your wave.
- Wave Extensions- This is one of the coolest feature I love… with this u can embed either an gadget, google map API or any 3rd party applications like games and more..
- Drag and drop file uploads – with emails you need to search for files and then attach them before sending. With this cool feature you can just drag and drop your files from desktop.
- Wave Embeds – lets you to embed any wave onto a website or a blog.
- Playback – With Wave’s playback feature, you can actually see how the entire conversation developed from the start.
- Open source – you can get all the above features totally free of cost and if you are interested you can also develop your own wave.
